Sodium thiosulfate (sodium thiosulphate) is an inorganic compound with the formula Na2S2O3. It is used widely in histology most notably in the Gordon & Sweet's staining method. Unreduced silver and excess gold are removed via a 5% sodium thiosulfate solution. The tissue section may then be counter-stained with nuclear fast-red or light-green.
